The Not So Ordinary Route
It seems everyone in my immediate family has decided to give climbing a try and yesterday it was my dads turn. We warmed up with a romp up Tryfan Fach to stress test his hip before committing to the very slightly more serious Ordinary Route at Idwal Slabs. To keep things more interesting for Alex and I, we avoided the deep cracks where possible and took the steeper slabbier ground at the sides.. in places it actually felt like climbing in Ailefroide. The final steep nose was great fun with plenty of small but very positive holds all the way up but my dad struggled to see them and took a tiny little fall. Worse than my dad falling and certainly more dangerous was the 120 squids worth of cams that went hurtling towards him when the gear loop of my harness snapped – nice catch though dad, I owe you one! Right mum, I guess you’re next!
Remonte Pente Repeat
Alex’s family came to visit today and Roland wanted to try some climbing before the picnic so I dragged him and Alex up Remonte Pente Direct. Second time around this route wasn’t nearly as much fun but the steep 5c pitches still make it worth while. They both fell trying a couple of times but they managed to climb most of the route un-aided!
